Babu Respects Jagan, Here Is What YCP Gives Back

The eagerly anticipated assembly sessions commenced yesterday in Andhra Pradesh with the swearing-in of MLAs from the ruling coalition TDP-JSP-BJP and YSR Congress. An interesting incident occurred in the morning when Chandrababu Naidu showed a generous gesture towards Jagan Mohan Reddy.

According to regulations, Jagan’s car was not permitted to enter the assembly gate, and he was required to walk from the outer premises like any other MLA. Despite not being the opposition leader in Andhra Pradesh and merely another MLA, Jagan had to adhere to the rules that require MLAs to walk from the assembly gate.

However, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu did not want Jagan to face such embarrassment. Instead, he allowed Jagan’s car to enter the assembly premises through the gate. This spared Jagan from the potential embarrassment of walking to the assembly, a protocol he had been exempt from during his five years as CM.

Now, the TDP alleges that the YSR Congress Party (YCP) has begun attacking Chandrababu Naidu by claiming that the CM defamed Jagan in the assembly the previous day. The YCP reportedly argued that the tradition of allowing the opposition leader to take the oath after the CM was not followed, and instead, cabinet ministers took their oaths after the CM.

However, according to assembly rules, the opposition leader of the state should take the oath after the CM. Since Jagan’s party won only 11 seats, falling short of the 18 seats typically required for opposition status, Jagan was not legally eligible to take the oath after the CM.

While Chandrababu Naidu showed respect to Jagan by sparing him from the embarrassment of walking to the assembly, the YCP seized on a technicality to criticize the CM, noted a political observer.
