Municipal Polls Result: Ruling YSRCP Leads

The D-day is here. The counting of municipal polls have begun in Andhra Pradesh. Ruling YSR Congress Party is clearly showing its dominance in the municipalities that opted for election. Opposition TDP is trailing behind. BJP, Congress and Janasena Party have failed to show their strength in the municipal elections.

Going by the declared results, YSRCP has won Done, Chittoor, Tirupati, Pulivendula, Erraguntla, Rayachoti, Naidupet, Kovvuru, Atmakur, Sullurpet, Punganoor, Madanapelle, Dhone, Palamneru, Macherla, Piddugurala, Kanigiri municipalities. TDP won Tadipatri municipality.

Tadipatri: In a tough-fight, TDP has bagged Tadipatri Municipality. This is TDP’s first victory in the Municipal Polls. Of the 36 wards, TDP won 18 wards. TDP says that the party’s supporters won in 3 more wards and thus taking the total tally to 21 wards. An independent councilor won in the municipality and TDP claims that the independent is their supporter. Ex MLA and TDP’s senior leader JC Prabhakar Reddy has won from the 24th ward in Tadipatri Municipality.

Vijayawada: Vijayawada corporation is going to be a neck-and-neck. So far, YSRCP won 8 and TDP won 6 divisions respectively. TDP showed its hold in Vijayawada East constituency whereas YSRCP got lead in the Central and West constituencies. TDP won 9th ward and 45th ward. Chennupati Kranthi Sri won in 9th ward, Mylavarapu Lavanya won in 45th ward.

TDP’s Mayor Candidate Kesineni Swetha, daughter of MP Kesineni Nani, has won from the 11th division.

Guntur: Repalle, Vinukonda, Sattenapalli, Chilakaluripeta Municipalities were bagged by YSRCP. The election took place for 5 Municipalities and 1 Municipal Corporation. In the Guntur Municipal Corporation, among the 57 divisions, 1 division was unanimously decided. The counting for 56 divisions are underway. Results for 24 divisions are out. YSRCP won in 19 divisions, TDP won in 3 divisions whereas one independent candidate won in 1 division.

Visakhapatnam: Vizag Municipal Corporation result is in favour of ruling YCP. So far, YSRCP bagged 11 divisions, TDP 9 divisions, Janasena 1 and independent, CPM won each division. As Vizag is under the leadership of Vijay Sai Reddy, CM Jagan’s right-hand man, Reddy has left no stone unturned to show YCP’s strength in Vizag.

Mydukuru: Kadapa district’s Mydukuru saw TDP’s upperhand. TDP has bagged 1 ward more than YSRCP. Opposition TDP won in 12 wards whereas ruling YSRCP won in 11 and Janasena won 1.

Chittoor: YCP gave a shock to Opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu’s home district. YSRCP won Tirupati Corporation. Of the total 50 divisions in Chittoor Corporation, YCP won 46, TDP 3 and indepdents one. In Tiruprati Corporation, out of 49 divisions, YSRCP won 48 divisions whereas TDP won just 1 division.

Kurnool district’s Done Municiplaity went into the hands of YSRCP. Of the total 32 wards, YSRCP won in 31 wards. CPI candidate won in 1 ward. Interestingly, 25 wards were won by YSRCP unanimously. The election took place in only 7 wards of which YSRCP won 6 and CPI won 1.

Nellimarla Municipality in Vizianagaram district gave a rude shock to YSRCP as the party’s Municipal Chairman Candidate Mahalakshmi was defeated. There are total 20 wards in the constituency. The counting for other wards is going on.

In Nellore district’s Naidupeta Municipality, 23 out of 25 wards were unanimous. 21 wards were bagged by YSRCP, TDP and BJP won unanimously in each ward. The election took place for 2 wards of which 2 were sweeped by YSRCP.

Coming to Prakasam district, YSRCP is showing its total dominance. Kanigiri and Chimakurthi municipalities were bagged by YSRCP. Out of the 20 wards in Kanigiri, YSRCP won total 20 wards hands down. In Chimakurthi, of the total 20 wards, YSRCP won 18 wards and TDP was limited to 2 wards.

In Giddaluru, Telugu Desam Party won in 3 wards. Of the 20 wards, 7 wards were unanimous all of them were bagged by YSRCP. The election held in the 13 wards. TDP won in the 2nd, 3rd and 7th wards.

West Godavari

YSRCP won Kovvuru Municipality. Of the 23 wards, YSRCP won 15, TDP won 7 and BJP won 1.

Vizag Steel Plant Sentiment

Locals of Visakhapatnam’s Elamanchili Municipality have displayed their sentiment and emotion towards Vizag Steel Plant. Firmly opposing the privatization of VSP, some voters have dropped in slogans “Visakha Ukku Andhrula Hakku” into the ballot boxes. Election officers who have opened the ballot boxes found these slips.
