The sudden lockdown and its unexpected extension twice have left all states of India closing bars and liquor outlets, be the Government or private run units. The production of Extra Neutral Alcohol and bottling of beverages like whiskey, brandy, rum etc., have come to halt, in view of lockdown due to the Coronavirus. By and large, the Alcohol Industry has come to a halt and could only resume after lifting of lockdown.
This makes heavy drinkers go crazy. While some have smartly stored a huge number of bottles at home, some people who are addicted to alcohol, are going out of mind. In a similar trail, a man, who is an accountant at a private firm by professional, lost Rs 92,000 after trying to buy liquor online.
He was fooled by online fraudsters as they lured him with advance payment. The man paid the amount on the promise of delivering alcohol to his place during the lockdown period. In spite of learning that, no alcohol is available in lockdown, people are falling for spam.
As per the police, the victim searched for liquor sale on an online classifieds company and dialled to the given contact number on the site. However, the number was of cyber fraudsters. The cop revealed that the man ordered one bottle of liquor which costs Rs 1600. He was asked to pay with a debit card.
He also revealed his debit card number, CVV and later shared the OTP with the fraudster. As we know addiction to something hijacks the brain, the man went on to share five more OTPs, losing a whopping Rs 92,000. The case has been registered after the accountant filed a complaint with cyber police.
