Gulte Special: Happy Birthday Kaikala Satyanarayana

Published by

One of the legendary icons of Telugu Cinema, who has been entertaining us for the last six decades is Kaikala Satyanarayana. He is the first generation actor of Tollywood, who made a name for himself by playing versatile roles in various films. The veteran actor turns 86 today.

Kaikala Satyanarayana was born on July 25th, 1935, and made his debut with the 1959 film Sipayi Kuthuru. He was the lead hero in this Changayya directorial movie. Though it didn’t do well at the box office, Satyanarayana grabbed the attention for his resemblance with NTR.

Soon, he turned into a dupe for the legendary NTR in many films. At the same time, Satyanarayana started essaying supporting roles, which included the characters of antagonists predominantly.

Once he started doing supporting characters, there was no looking back for the legendary actor. He worked for films across various genres like mythology, social, comedy, action, and historical. Satyanarayana had the privilege of acting alongside first-generation Superstars like NTR, ANR, Krishna, Krishnam Raju, and Sobhan Babu, and also the second-generation stalwarts like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, and Mohan Babu.

Be it the role of Bheema in Dana Veera Soora Karna, or Yama Dharma Raju in Yamaleela or Ghatothkachudu in Ghatothkachudu, Kaikala has done a lot of memorable roles in his illustrated career. He acted in over 750 films, which also included the movies of Kannada, Hindi, and Tamil languages as well. He also won many awards and recognitions for his performances in the films.

Kaikala turned as a producer for the 1994 film Bangaru Kutumbam, which eventually won the Best Feature Film Nandi Award that year. He also entered politics in the 90s and won the Lok Sabha elections from Machilipatnam constituency in 1996.

Unfortunately, the actor is yet to receive a Padma Award from the Indian Government. For his enormous contribution to the field of cinema, he definitely deserves it. Kaikala was last seen in the 2019 film Maharshi. We wish him a very happy birthday and hope to see him in many versatile roles in the future.
