The critically-acclaimed flick Palasa 1978 has represented the voice of the oppressed wonderfully and its director Karuna Kumar made an outstanding entry to the TFI with this intriguing crime drama. With a strong storyline and crisp editing, Karuna has earned a place among promising debut filmmakers in Tollywood.
However, the rumours came in that Karuna Kumar has confirmed a film with the senior actor Dr Rajasekhar, which is not true. Filmmaker Karuna spoke to Gulte saying, “Yes, I have plans to do a film with the hero Rajasekhar but the film rights have not been acquired yet and I cannot confirm or deny it at the moment. There are many hurdles at the moment. However, Jeevitha has shown interest in the film”.
He also rubbished the rumours of releasing the film on OTT. “If I ever do a film with Rajasekhar which would be a remake of superhit Malayali film, there will be a direct release and I have no OTT option of it on my mind”. Apart from this, the director has confirmed doing a film with Sudheer Babu, which is a bank robbery thriller. He is also set to an OTT web film (Aha), titled Metro stories, which would possibly have Rajeev Kanakala, Varun Sandesh and a few prominent actors.
Karuna Kumar said that he was approached by nearly 15 producers so far to do a film soon after the lockdown. But since he is all set with five scripts in hand, the hectic schedule and dates unavailability made Karuna put them on hold. In addition, the talented director is also having talks on a film with Anil Sunkara, apart from Allu Arvind’s Geetha arts and Sithara entertainments.
