The suspense is still continuing over the elections of the Movie Artists Association (MAA). The Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of MAA was held in two sessions the other day. From the meeting, it is being assumed that the polling will be held after the second week of September.
The first session of the meeting was presided by the current MAA president, Naresh. The next session was presided by Jeevitha Rajasekhar. Over 150 MAA members have virtually attended this meeting. The main topic of discussion was the elections. While some members requested the board to take an immediate decision on the polling dates, the others asked the executive committee to take some time.
Naresh said that the Executive Committee will follow the instructions given by Disciplinary Committee, which is headed by Krishnam Raju. As per the rules, MAA elections should be held within 21 days of AGM. One of the presidential contestants of the upcoming elections, Prakash Raj requested the board to conduct the polling on September 12. He further asked the board to conduct the elections on 19th if the things won’t fall in place and requested not to extend it to a later date.
Disciplinary Committee member Murali Mohan said that it is impossible to conduct the elections within 21 days due to the current COVID-19 scenario. He said that they have to get permission from the government and the polling should be conducted with all the necessary COVID-19 protocols. He added that they will conduct the elections on a suitable date after September second week.
If not September 12th, the elections may happen on September 19. If Ganesh Nimmajan falls on that day, the polling date may get pushed to September 26.
