I Felt I Was The Worst Choice For Thalaivi: Kangana

Published by

Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Thalaivii is soon releasing in cinemas in the next two days. Playing the role of J Jayalalithaa, the actress revealed how she felt she was the ‘worst’ casting for the role of the iconic actress-turned-politician.

In her interview yesterday, Kangana said that she had ‘doubts’ about taking up the challenging role of a legendary personality. “I thought I was the worst casting choice for Thalaivii. Vijendra sir came to me, and I saw Jaya maa’s videos, and I was like what!”

She further said that her face was quite different from Jayalalithaa’s looks and that only added more doubts. Kangana also said that she was confused about how she will look after gaining weight for the role.” The clear obstacles of me, in my 30s, to gain 20-25 kgs of weight. And who knows how I’ll look after gaining, I would go mad. At this stage of my career I have so much to lose later”.

She said it was the director Vijay, whose conviction worked for her and she accepted to essay the role. “Vijay feels I will be perfect for the role and can carry it off great. But when he said that I felt he would receive a lot of ‘bashing’ in Tamil Nadu because of me. Because Jaya Maa has temples and a huge craze. People will even burn theatres down if we don’t reach their expectations”.

Presently, the actress is busy with the promotions of the film in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The film also stars Arvind Swami as MGR and is helmed by Vijay. It will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi in theatres on September 10, 2021.
