Rajamouli’s magnum opus featuring Ram Charan and NTR is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated feature films in the country. The movie has familiar Bollywood actors including Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn and other international star cast.
The film is touted to be made with a whopping Rs 400 Crore budget. The film was originally slated for 30th July, 2020 release. But Covid-19 pandemic has spoiled the plans of Rajamouli and producer DVV Danayya.
Still, there is no clarity yet on RRR’s theatrical release as the theatrical market is yet to completely open in Bollywood and other regional industries and also international markets.
Amidst this, RRR is expected to be pushed to early 2022 release. There is mounting pressure from the buyers on the makers to confirm the official release date. All these are likely to affect the producers of RRR. It is estimated that the interest amount alone cost upto Rs 100 Crore to Rs 150 Crore on top of the film’s making cost.
So, including the interest cost, the total budget of RRR is shot upto Rs 550 Crore. This is certainly going to be a blow to producers who have made huge investment on the film and in turn its buyers who may have to bear the burnt to an extent.
It can be noted that Pen Studios acquired North Indian theatrical rights of RRR which includes Hindi-dubbed, Telugu, Tamil and other dubbed versions in the North Indian market. In addition to this, Hindi-dubbed satellite, digital and electronic rights were sold to Pen.
The digital rights of RRR’s Hindi, Portuguese, Korean, Turkish and Spanish versions were sold to Netflix. The digital rights of the film’s Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions were bought by Zee5.
