The trailer of Bollywood hero Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sardar Udham’ has been dropped and it is an intriguing watch. The film is based on true events and revolutionary freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh’s tale which many of us have no knowledge of.
“The Indians never forgive their enemies and strike them down even after 20 years,” is the dialogue that introduces us to the trailer. Then we see the British plotting to arrest Gandhi who left for Amritsar from Delhi.
‘Sardar Udham’ is set post the 1919’s ‘Jallianwala Bagh’ episode which was one of the worst crimes of the British. In revenge against this massacre, Udham Singh sets to London in order to create unrest there which is the only way to counter attack the British. He kills Michael O’ Dwyer, former lieutenant governor of Punjab in response to Jallianwala Bagh. But Udham Singh gets caught and convicted and eventually gets hanged in July 1940.
Vicky Kaushal plays the titular role and gives one of the best and honest performances. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the visuals are really good and give us the mood of the pre-Independence era. The cinematography is just extraordinary.
‘Sardar Udham’ trailer rakes up massive expectations and the film is getting an OTT release on Amazon Prime. The streaming date is October 16th.
