Bollywood actor Swara Bhaskar, who has always been outspoken on various issues, has filed a complaint in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj over alleged objectionable comments made by a Twitter user and YouTube influencer, Elvish Yadav. The user allegedly commented on the actress’s old movie scene. She has filed a complaint saying some messages and hashtags have been circulating on Twitter with the intention to outrage her modesty.
The Delhi Police has filed a criminal case on the basis of her complaint under the sections 354D, 509 IPC, and 67 IT act and the cops would soon ask Twitter about the accounts that were used to post the ‘objectionable’ tweets. The issue started on October 1 when Elvish had posted a tweet to the actress saying, “Excessive m@sturb@tion makes you blind was a myth but swara didi isko sahi prove karri hai. GST word use kiya mene swara?”
Later Elvish trended the hashtag #SwaraApniUngliSambhal. But a section of users fired on Swara for being equally offensive. They pointed out how she herself has used abusive words for others. On one occasion, she had called a four-year-old child ‘chiya’ and ‘kama’ on live television. And she also used “Chaddhi on fire”, which is equally derogatory as the trending hashtag.
Swara Bhaskar has received heavy trolling and criticism on social media in the past on various socio-political issues and controversies as well. But this is the first time she filed a police case for trolls. Swara has also supported Shah Rukh Khan after his son Aryan Khan was arrested in a drug seizure case. She also questioned the arrest of Aryan on her Instagram story.
Swara had recently said on Twitter, “I am not alone. Suffering casual and everyday cyber sexual harassment is the price many women have to pay to have a voice in our public spaces.. again it’s not okay!”
