Kamal Haasan Breaks Silence On Marudhanayagam In Bigg Boss

Marudhanayagam was the dream project of Kamal Haasan. It was launched in 1997 in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. Kamal Haasan was the director and producer of it. He also penned the script along with writer Sujatha. Kamal planned to make it India’s most expensive film with an estimated budget of Rs. 30 crores at that time.

However, the historical drama was shelved eventually due to financial issues. After a long time, Kamal opened up on this shelved project. It is already known that the actor hosts the reality show Bigg Boss in Tamil.

During the weekend episode, Kamal spoke about a book titled ‘Thamizhar Naatupaadalgal,’ written by Vanamamalai. He said that there is a line in the song Inji iduppazhagi (Thevar Magan), which goes like ‘Marakka Manam Kooduthillaye..’ Kamal revealed that it was his favourite line from that book.

Kamal also revealed that he later came across the song ‘Kansakipu Sandai,’ which was written by the same writer. The protagonist of that song is Marudhanayagam. Kamal’s dream project was inspired by this character.

Marudhanayagam Pillai is an 18th-century warrior, who later on becomes Muhammed Yusuf Khan, a commandant of the sepoys of the British East India Company’s Madras Army. He then fought for the Indian freedom struggle.

The legendary actor said that the literature should not be safeguarded only in its original language but should be spread across various languages as well.

The shelved film included a stellar star cast of Amrish Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Vishnuvardhan, Satya Raj, Nasser, and Pasupathy. Ilaiyaraja was supposed to be the music composer of it.
