Cricket turned popular sport in India post 1983 World Cup. Kapil Dev led team India lifted the trophy beating the mighty West Indies in London and it was one of those historic moments in Indian cricket. Based on this, the film ‘83’ is shaping up and the trailer is unveiled by the makers.
Team India starts off their 1983 World Cup journey in a disappointing note. They lose the first two matches against West Indies and Australia and were in the verge of crashing out of the tournament. Team India needs to win the third match against Zimbabwe with a big margin. Enters Ranveer Singh who is essaying Kapil Dev in the film from bathroom. He learns that the score is low and four wickets have fallen. In the same match Kapil scores 175 and delivers a big win which retains India chances in the World Cup.
The visuals shift to team India’s journey from landing in London to the net practices. Team India faces many odds and no one believed in this team that they would go on to win the tournament. Surpassing every hurdle, the team makes a collaborative effort which is emotional and heart-touching.
The trailer is very inspiring and reveals many tales within the team and also of every member who is part of this roller-coaster ride.
Ranveer Singh is very natural as Kapil and Deepika Padukone flashes as his wife. Tamil hero Jiiva is seen as Kris Srikkanth and the rest of the members fit the bill properly.
‘83’ is directed by Kabir Khan and this is a perfect tribute to Kapil Dev and his men who united the country with the game.
The film is releasing for Christmas on December 24th.
