Legendary Telugu lyricist Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry breathed his last battling cancer and pneumonia at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Post his death, KIMS hospital MD Dr. Bhaskar Rao spoke to the media and provided details of Sirivennela’s health.
“Sirivennela was suffering from cancer for the past six years. We removed one lung back then and post that he underwent a bypass surgery. A week back, the cancer was detected in the other lung and we extracted 45 percent of the infected lung and he was in good condition for the next two days. But health complications hit him and was admitted to our KIMS hospital for advanced treatment,” said Dr. Bhaskar.
Upon admission in KIMS, Sirivennela had undergone proctostomy. “Infection hit the remaining partial lung and he was getting trouble in expiration. So we provided assistance with an ecmo machine but in the meantime his kidney got damaged and the infection spread all over his body. He breathed his last this evening at 4:07 PM,” said the KIMS doctor.
In a span of over three decades, Sirivennela penned over 3000 songs and won many awards and rewards. In 2019, the government of India honoured Sirivennela with Padma Shri.
The funeral of Sirivennela will be held tomorrow in Hyderabad.
