There is going to be a big clash at the box office this weekend as Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise will take on Hollywood biggie Spiderman: No Way Home. While the former is hitting the screens on Friday (December 17), the latter is arriving a day early i.e. on December 16.
Both these films are having a pan-India release. Spiderman is one of the biggest movie franchises in the world, which is backed by Marvel Entertainment. There will be a huge buzz on this movie, no matter when it gets released. On top of that, MCU films enjoy a crazy fan following in India and thus, there are no second thoughts in assuming that No Way Home will garner huge openings.
On the flip side, Pushpa was made on a budget of more than Rs. 200 crores and is being released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. This is the first pan-India release for Allu Arjun. The soundtrack and the trailer have received a good response from the audience.
If we compare both the films, it looks like Pushpa may do well only in the Telugu states whereas Spiderman may perform well across the nation.
According to the reports, Prasads Multiplex in Hyderabad sold more than 8500 tickets for this movie which are worth Rs. 23 lakhs. Ariesplex in Trivandrum sold around 7000 tickets worth Rs. 17 lakhs. This proves the unreal craze of Spiderman among South Indian audiences.
Pushpa will do extremely well across the Telugu states. But the lack of promotions may affect the film’s openings in other languages. Until now, the team hasn’t promoted the film in any other language, apart from Telugu. So, it will be a huge task for it to attract other language audiences, especially in North India. Its performance will depend on word of mouth in the other states.
Considering these factors, Spiderman has an upper hand over Pushpa as of now. But it has to be seen if Allu Arjun proves his prowess with the film post the release.
