Telugu film industry is affected by COVID-19 badly but it has recovered quickly too. In the process, one thing that irked the industry is the issue of ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh. The government recently decided to decrease the ticket prices in the state. However, the producers, distributors and the theatre owners challenged the same in the High Court.
On a shocking note, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has suspended the GO issued by the government regarding the reduction of movie ticket prices in the state and responded in the favour of the government.
The AP government has brought GO No.35 into existence recently and according to it, there will be no hike in the ticket prices and the number of shows. But, the entire film industry has expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. So many film personalities including the producers and distributors have urged the government to reconsider the decision and met Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and Minister Perni Nani regarding the same. The discussions are going on and off.
However, the government has not changed its decision. The lawyers representing the theatre owners’ and other parties commented that the government can’t reduce movie ticket prices and only theater owners should have the right to decide the ticket rates. The High Court also agreed with the arguments and suspended GO No. 35 in this regard.
We have to see how the government would respond to the verdict.
