Despite picking up wafer-thin lines as his plots, director Anand L Rai is known for delivering some stupendous movies and his other day OTT-released movie Atrangi Re is one such gem again. However, the plot lost its charm after the interval though the twist is terrific, then, one man saves the film from getting flattened out and it is none other than, Sir Dhanush.
Playing the role of Vishu, who is a Tamilian studying MBBS in Delhi, Dhanush initially got sidelined by Sara Ali Khan’s presence as Bihari girl Rinku. She has beaten him in few scenes, the romantic ones, but then starts the real game. After the mental disorder of heroine comes into the play, it is Dhanush who shoulders the film on his acting prowess. Neither Akshay nor any other actor would be able to dominate his presence, while Sara faltered big time in the second half.
While the writing of the film is good, the director loses grip here and now, but then Dhanush does a fab job as he does everything, including serious scenes, comedy and drama as well. Though his role resembles of the one he did from Raanjhana, the way he executed certain scenes with Hindi and Tamil dialogues together is a treat to watch. Coupled with AR Rahman’s songs and good background score, he lifted the film whenever needed.
However, the whole lack of emotional connection to the movie’s story might hurt many fans, but for the ones who want to see Dhanush’s work, it’s a treat as the South actor completely dominates Sara and Akshay with his towering screen presence.
