India’s legendary singer, fondly called ‘Nightingale of India’ Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 today, on 6, February 2022. The veteran singer was hospitalized at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 in early January. She breathed her last after battling with pneumonia for nearly three weeks.
Lata Mangeshkar ruled the Bollywood industry for more than six decades and she excelled only because of her hard work, talent, sacrifice, and dedication. Her death has left a massive void in the Indian music fraternity today.
The singer was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1990, Padma Bhushan in 1969, and Bharat Ratna in 2001. Starting her singing career in 1942, Lata recorded innumerable songs in over 36 Indian and foreign languages. Along with fans, several politicians and Celebrities are paying their heartfelt condolences on social media.
Lata Mangeshkar began her journey at an age when the industry already had many talented singers and a specific genre of music. Blessed with God’s own voice, she changed the face of playback singing where her era is called the golden age of Bollywood.
Without voice modulation, electronic instruments, and technologies that we have today, Lata had the onus of proving herself not only up to the mark but more practical and suited as the lead female playback singer than any of the very talented singers already established at the time.
RIP to the sheer Talent!
