#Oscars: All Fingers Crossed For ‘Jai Bhim’

Published by

Oscars 2022 is just around the corner. “The ballots have been counted. The names are all sealed,” said The Academy in a tweet ahead of tonight’s big Oscar Nomination announcement. Indian Twitter users started trending actor Suriya’s Jai Bhim hoping for its win. Jai Bhim, the film on the real-life story of Judge Chandru, skipped the theatrical release. But the movie earned innumerable accolades and turned out to be a top searched Indian movie of 2021.

Suriya And Jyothika Likely To Head To The US:

The film also has now been selected for the International Awards at the 11th Annual Congressional Global Community Oscar Awards Gala 2021, which is to be held on February 19th in the USA. Both Suriya and Jyotika will reportedly head to the US to receive the Global Community Oscar Awards for ‘Jai Bhim’. The film will be awarded the MEATF Congressional Medal of Excellence at the grand event, and Suriya, Jyotika, TJ Gnanavel, and Justice S Chandru have been invited to receive the medal.

Hollywood Critics Discuss Jai Bhim On Twitter:

The film was found in the Twitter discussion today by Hollywood critics. As we know, the film is one of the long list of 276 films that are eligible for the Academy Awards this year and the shortlist would be announced this evening. The New York Times film critic Kyle Buchana posed a question on Twitter, “Which Oscar nomination could provoke the biggest reaction from you tomorrow morning?”

Jacqueline Coley, Awards Editor at reviewing aggregating website Rotten Tomatoes, responded to Kyle by mentioning the Suriya starrer. “#JaiBhim for Best Picture. Trust me on this one,” she wrote. The Hollywood Reporter columnist Scott Feinberg reacted to the thread, “It is definitely on the Academy Screening Room!” Jacqueline further responded, “The entire continent would lose it. Trust.”

A few days ago, Jai Bhim grabbed attention when it got featured on Oscars’ YouTube channel in the Scene at The Academy category. The video featured a few key scenes that define the socio-economic conflict and the abuse of the criminal justice system. The video has garnered over 1.8 million views, making it the most popular video on the Oscars’ YouTube channel. For the unversed, Suriya has bankrolled the project and played the lead role of an activist-lawyer, which is inspired by retired Madras High Court Justice K Chandru.
