Khiladi Lands In Legal Trouble

Published by

Ravi Teja’s latest flick Khiladi landed in a legal soup as Bollywood producer Ratan Jain filed a case on the film’s makers. He alleged that the title ‘Khiladi’ solely belongs to his 1992 Hindi film, which featured Akshay Kumar as the lead hero.

Ratan Jain requested the court to stall Telugu Khiladi’s release on OTT and other platforms.

Speaking to the ETimes, Jain said that the producers of Ravi Teja’s Khiladi need to change the title because it is registered with him under the trademark act.

Jain further added that he is not looking for any financial compensation and is only cared about the reputation of ‘Khiladi’ films. He further alleged that films down South India register their titles in the local associations and release the films with the same title in Hindi as well.

“This happens because the CBFC has allowed dubbed films with titles similar to Hindi films, to release across the country. But this was not the case some years ago,” said Ratan Jain.

He went on to say that he was completely unaware that a film called Khiladi is being made in the South. He only came to know about it when the trailer was released a few days ago.

As soon as he realized that somebody is using his title, Jain approached the court. The magistrate ordered that it is too late to stall the release now.

Jain said that he is not planning to halt the film’s theatrical release but on OTT and other platforms. He also alleged that he was not told about the film’s release in the Hindi market too.

As of now, the makers of Ravi Teja’s Khiladi haven’t responded on this issue. We have to see how they will react in the coming days.
