Only two days are left for Bollywood’s one of the major releases, Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film is gearing up for theatrical release on February 25. However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial is facing legal troubles. Ever since the teaser was released, there have been multiple cases filed against the film.
Today, the Supreme Court has suggested a title change of it. The order came in view of the several cases which are pending in the court regarding the release. The popular news portal claims that Bhansali’s lawyer has informed the court that he will inform the same. The court will hear the matter tomorrow.
A few days ago, Babu Ravji Shah, the real Gangubai’s adopted son, has filed a case and has alleged that the film is defamatory towards his mother. He has even challenged an order from the Bombay High Court which refused to stay the release of the film. Meanwhile, other complaints filed were by Maharashtra MLA Amin Patel and Kamathipura resident Shraddha Surve.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. One of the complaints was about the use of the name Kamathipura, claiming it misrepresents the area. The name Kamathipura, where a number of brothels operated in the past, should be replaced. Amin Patel, in his petition, sought the words ‘Kamathipura’ and ‘Kathiawadi’ to be deleted from the movie as the use of the words are hurting the sentiments of people.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the film with a UA certificate after four major cuts were recommended. Reportedly, a 17-second-long dialogue and visuals have been removed.
