After a long wait, the Andhra Pradesh government issued a new GO today allowing a hike in ticket prices for the magnum opus RRR and it will apply for the first 10 days of the release. The government permitted all the theatres to raise an amount of Rs 75 per ticket over and above admission rates. The film by Rajamouli is set to release on 25th March 2022.
With the new GO, the theatre owners can sell the tickets additionally to the current ticket rates. Also, in cities, single-screen theatres can sell the tickets at Rs 236 and multiplexes for Rs 265 for 10 days from the date of release. Three days ago, Rajamouli and producer Danayya met Chief Minister YS Jagan and reportedly requested a hike in ticket prices.
Ergo, giving a boost to the much-anticipated film, the government has agreed to permit an increasing amount for ticket rates for films made with more than Rs 100 crore (cost of production). Earlier, as per the guidelines, makers of mega-budget movies would only be allowed to avail the film tickets price hike if at least 20% of the film had been shot in Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, a few hours ago, speaking to the media, minister Perni Nani said that RRR makers had applied for the increase in ticket rates and that the Committee on ticket pricing will look into the matter and make a decision in this regard shortly.
