Director Swaroop RSJ’s second movie Mishan Impossible produced by Matinee Entertainment is due for release on April 1st, a day before Ugadi. The theatrical trailer increased curiosity on the movie that marks comeback of Taapsee Pannu to Tollywood. Ahead of the release, Swaroop interacted with media. Here are the excerpts.
What’s the inspiration for the story of the movie?
An incident that took place in 2014 was an inspiration. Three kids left home to catch underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The film is made based on this real incident, though it’s completely fictionalized. I penned the story much before Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya.
Why did you become more experimental, after scoring a hit?
I don’t feel it risky. If we tell a story honestly, it doesn’t matter, whether it’s a small or big movie. When I wanted to start the journey as a director, my friends suggested me to make love story or a comedy movie. However, I preferred to do a detective movie, since we didn’t see a fil in the space in near future.
What’s the initial reaction of Tapsee, when you narrated the story?
Initially, it’s a male character, when I penned the story. But, at one point, I felt, people may draw comparison with Agent. Thus, I changed it to female character. When we watch filmography of Taapsee for last few years, she did many strong characters. Taapsee’s is a centre character, wherein the kids are the heroes. Taapsee liked the story and she said irrespective of length of her character, she wanted to be part of good movies. She’s very professional.
Is it a comedy or a thriller?
Kids planning to catch Dawood Ibrahim itself makes a funny point. 60% of the movie is witty. Last 45 mins of the movie is something else. However, it’s more of a comedy film.
Why did you dare to release the film between RRR and KGF 2?
We wanted to release the movie in summer. Ugadi advantage is also there and it’s a solo release. Moreover, many small films released amid huge competition turned out to be hits.
Didn’t you feel it risky to make a kids movie?
After Chantabbai, we didn’t have a local detective film. It was a big advantage for Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya. Likewise, we didn’t witness a proper kids movie, after Little Soldiers. I don’t feel, it’s risky to make kids movies.
What were the challenges you faced to prepare kids for their characters?
When kids came for auditions, they used to imitate stars. It took 30 days for me to finalize the actors. I picked the kids who came up with their own ideas. We did 60 days of workshop to prepare them. We went for shoot, when we got the confidence. The names of the kids are- Roshan, Bhanu Prakash and Jai Theertha.
What’s the story behind the title of the movie?
The heading of the article printed on the newspaper about the Pune kids was Mission Impossible. Usually, kids strike off words to correct names. You need to watch the movie for wrong spelling of the title. We used crayons, sketch pens etc. which kids use and the handwriting is also of kids.
How was the shooting experience with the kids?
We shot the film in 8 surrounding villages of Hyderabad. As to develop bond with the kids, we hired a manduva house, stayed there and had fun. We used to shoot for 10 to 11 hours every day.
Why Taapsee isn’t part of all the promotions?
If Taapsee alone promotes the movie, it will become her movie. It indeed will give a wrong impression. Audience needs to come to theatres with an opinion that the kids are the heroes of the movie. Taapsee’s character is there for 40 minutes. She is a private investigative journalist.
Why are you releasing the film only in Telugu?
This is not the film to be dubbed in other languages. The story has potential for remake.
What is your next project?
I haven’t yet decided on my next project, but I’m planning to make trilogy of Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya. We are not taking up it immediately, as we wanted to make next part in large scale.
