The 94th Oscar awards have just concluded and actor Will Smith walked away with the Best Actor award for his phenomenal performance in the movie ‘King Richard’ which is a biopic based on the life of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams.
Accepting the award, Will Smith broke into tears and thanked the Williams family for believing in him to play the role of Richard Williams. But before that a shocking incident took place involving Will Smith and he went on to punch the presenter Chris Rock. Smith apologized for the incident and the video of Smith punching Chris Rock had gone viral.
Chris Rock, while presenting the best documentary prize with a short comedy routine, had cracked a joke comparing Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald look to Demi Moore’s appearance in the film “G.I. Jane”. He suggested that she should appear in the film’s sequel. Jada Pinkett was visibly upset with the joke. For the unversed, Jada is suffering from a hair loss condition called Alopecia since last year. She took to Instagram in 2021 to post a video of her bald self and revealed that she is suffering from Alopecia Areata. The 50-year-old captioned the video, “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends… period!”
Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain won Best Actress for ‘The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.’ Deaf actor Troy Kotsur received the Best Supporting Actor award for ‘CODA’ and the same film also won the Best Film Award. ‘CODA’ is an English remake of the 2014 French film La Famille Belier, written and directed by Sian Heder. That’s a surprise that the remake won the Best Film award.
Jane Campion won the Best Director for the film ‘The Power of Dog’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story.’
Japanese film ‘Drive My Car’ won Best International Feature while India’s ‘Writing With Fire’ which received a nomination in Best Documentary Feature category failed to win the award. ‘Summer Of Soul’ received the Best Documentary Feature award.
