With Bollywood’s big hero Ajay Devgan throwing himself into a spat by raking up Hindi debate against Kichha Sudeep, the whole of South India’s intellectual audience has started voicing their opinions very strongly. And one such person is none other than Annamayya fame actress Kasturi Shankar, who has later acted in a lots of Telugu movies and serials as well.
Apparently, Kasturi explained to a bunch of pro-Hindi supporters on a TV debate as to how people in the North East and other states don’t like to talk in Hindi but prefer English as a medium of communication. “Most of the educated south Indians can speak to native Hindi speakers it at least some broken pieces of the language. But can any North Indian person utter at least a line in any South Indian language?” she asked.
At the same time, Kasturi explained how Hindi is being imposed on South people as well as North East people very forcefully. “Why is Hindi being imposed on us? We are made to study three languages during the whole of our schooling (say English, Telugu and Hindi). Should we not change that policy now? Why should south Indians and North East people learn Hindi in the first place?” said Kasturi in a strong tone.
This happened during a so-called National news channel’s prime time debate, and Kasturi’s name is ringing everywhere since then.
