AP High Court nods for online ticket portal by AP govt

Published by

Ending the suspense on online ticket sales, the AP High Court has given the green signal to the state government’s movie ticketing policy. On Friday the petition filed by the Multiplex Association of India was taken up by the AP High Court.

And in a setback for the multiplexes, the High Court made it clear that they cannot sell tickets on the respective platforms for the time being. The High Court opined that the policy brought by the government on how to sell tickets through the AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation needs to be looked upon and it would take some time to learn about the policy and its functionality.

The High Court said that movie tickets can be sold through the online portal brought by the AP government. The request of the multiplex owners (to sell in their own platforms) in this regard will be considered in the next hearing. The High Court adjourned the case till July 12th.

Trying to target Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, the YCP government raked up the issue of ticket pricing and received a lot of flak. Megastar Chiranjeevi was instrumental in trying to resolve the issue between the film industry and AP government. Later the Producers Guild also met AP government a couple of times and held talks on ticket pricing and the Guild had no objection with the state government launching its own portal to sell the movie tickets.
