Yesterday, we witnessed a huge clash at the box office. Three films from three different industries locked horns with each other at a pan-India level. They are Vikram, Major, and Samrat Prithviraj.
Starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role, Vikram was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. There were many expectations of this film right from its launch. Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, and Suriya played other important roles in this flick and made it a big multi-starrer. Vikram has garnered positive talk from the viewers. It opened big in Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states as well.
On the flip side, Adivi Sesh’s Major is another notable release that has been creating a buzz for a long time. It is the biopic of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. As expected, the film turned out to be an emotional biopic filled with stunning action sequences. It had a sensational opening in both the Telugu states. Major’s Hindi version also opened well across the country.
It was Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj that miserably failed on an opening day. The first-day collections of this film are way lesser than the opening day earnings of Akshay’s last film Bachchan Pandey. Meanwhile, the Telugu and Tamil versions didn’t get the bare minimum footfalls on the first day. It is shocking to see a big film featuring a big star produced by a big production house (Yash Raj Films) failing to do well at the box office.
On the whole, both Vikram and Major had a fantastic first day while Prithviraj had a disappointing start.
In Tamilnadu, Vikram emerged as the winner while in the Telugu states, Major emerged as the winner. The interesting fact is that both the films are performing extremely well in South India, by beating a Bollywood film.
This once again proves that South films are ruling the Indian box office at this monent.
