During the initial stages of his career, hero Gopichand played villain roles in a few films. His performances as an antagonist in Jayam, Nijam, and Varsham received a thumping response from both critics as well as audiences.
Meanwhile, he has now revealed that he was also offered the villain role in the 2003 blockbuster Okkadu. Recently, Gopichand participated in the talk show Alitho Saradaga. During the interaction, he said that the makers of Okkadu approached him to play the villain role in the film.
“I think they had Prakash Raj as the first option. But apparently, he dropped the offer due to the clash of the dates. Then, the producer MS Raju garu and director Gunasekhar garu approached me. I liked the story and was ready to do it,” said Gopichand.
“But they might have got a call from Prakash Raj saying that he will adjust the dates and work for the film. Then, they opted for him,” he further added.
If Prakash Raj turned down the offer completely, we would have seen Gopichand in that iconic Obul Reddy role. However, the same MS Raju gave Gopichand an offer in Varsham, which had hit the screens exactly a year after Okkadu’s release.
