With Nikhil Siddhartha’s Karthikeya 2 heading towards ‘Triple Blockbuster’, Tollywood is certainly in the limelight. Started with blockbusters Sita Ramam and Bimbisara, Karthikeya 2 has continued the success streak at the Box Office giving a big push to the industry in these tested times.
Particularly, the performance of the devotional thriller in Hindi and USA has stunned even the trade. While the film crossed 1 million dollars in US, the Hindi version alone earned Rs 15.32 Crore Nett in 9 days. The failure of Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan have certainly helped Karthikeya 2 to achieve this rare feat.
Overall, Karthikeya 2 grossed Rs 75.33 Crore world-wide so far including Hindi. With theatricals estimated at Rs 14 Crore, this is heading towards Triple Blockbuster. Sita Ramam made about 65 Crore WW gross & Bimbisara made about 58 Crore WW gross thus raking in huge profits to its distributors. With this, August so far scored a hat-trick.
The next big release is Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannadh’s Liger that is all set for a massive opening at the ticket windows. The advance bookings for the film both in Telugu and Hindi are humongous and promising to be a thunderous start. All eyes are on Liger, and If Liger too turns out to be a blockbuster, then Aug 2022 will witness four blockbusters in a row which is unheard of in recent history of Indian cinema. Post Covid-19 pandemic, undoubtedly, this is the biggest month for the film industry.
Overall, Telugu films have clearly outperformed other markets this August season. They are setting new benchmarks and trends in the Indian cinema. Thus, this makes for Golden August in Tollywood’s history.
