Some directors come up with terrific debut films but later on, their films don’t work. You can call it a stroke of luck for the first film or simply the fact that they have put years of effort into the first film’s script but later got carried away by that success. There are many such names to discuss and one among them is Karuna Kumar.
He has come up with the film “Palasa 1978” which was released during the lockdown and impressed even the mighty Megastar Chiranjeevi. Perhaps that is the reason Allu Arvind ran to him to offer a web series for Aha, titled Metro Kathalu.
Then came Sridevi Soda Centre from this director with Sudhir Babu as the lead, but that too didn’t work at the box office. And other day, his latest film “Kalapuram” got released, but that also didn’t impress and it even depressed the audience with its pathetic screenplay and narrative.
In the end, it looks like Karuna Kumar has become that one film wonder as only his debut film got that hit talk. The likes of Ravikanth Perepu of Kshanam, Virinchi Varma of Uyyala Jampala, and Pilla Zamindar’s Ashok, fall in this category of directors who have scored blockbuster on debut, but never got close to that range of success later on.
