Kollywood star Chiyaan Vikram’s Cobra was one of the most eagerly awaited biggies that was delayed due to the Covid pandemic. The film, which went on the floors in 2019, finally released in cinemas amidst high expectations on August 31st, 2022 as an Eid treat for fans. The various getups donned by Vikram were one of he major highlights that created a huge craze for the movie.
However, Cobra only managed to receive mixed reviews from critics upon its release and even the word of mouth wasn’t that overwhelming. This naturally affected the film’s theatrical revenue to a lot of extent. Everyone thought that Cobra would end up as a colossal dud in Vikram’s career. But the reality is quite encouraging.
Cobra has reportedly collected a theatrical share of Rs 29.95 Cr with a gross of Rs 51.10 Cr within 4 days at the box office worldwide. The film needs another Rs 33.05 crore to reach the break even mark. Coming to the the twin Telugu states, Cobra has collected Rs 3.37 Cr share with a gross of Rs 5.70 Cr. The film is just Rs 1.63 Cr away from the break even mark.
With no big film running currently, Cobra is expected to have a decent run in cinemas across AP, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, Cobra has its soundtrack scored by Oscar winner AR Rahman. KGF girl Sreenidhi Shetty is the leading lady in the movie that launched former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan in a negative role.
