Hollywood actor Robbie Coltrane, popularly known for his role as Hagrid in the Harry Potter series, is no more. Robbie passed away in Scotland last night. He was 72.
Coltrane’s agent Belinda Wright said Robbie died on Friday at a hospital in Scotland. However, she didn’t reveal the cause of his death.
Robbie was shot to fame with the series Cracker in which he played the role of a serious detective. He won Best Actor at British Academy Television Awards for that show.
It was the role of Hagrid which made him hugely popular across the globe. He played that role in all eight parts of the Harry Potter series.
Harry Potter’s cast, crew and fans remembered Robbie and stated that there is no Hogwarts without Hagrid.
Harry Potter’s lead actress Emma Watson took to Instagram and wrote, “I’ll really miss your sweetness, your nicknames, your warmth, your laughter and your hugs. There was no better Hagrid. You made it a joy to be Hermione.”
Harry Potter’s author JK Rowling tweeted, “I’ll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, above all his children.”
