Back then, films of heroes like Surya and Vishal used to run big time at the Telugu box office and those heroes haven’t seen major opposition even during festival seasons. That’s the reason there was a cry to ban dubbed movies at one point in time in Tollywood. But now, only films that have content value are running at the Telugu box office and even the likes of Rajnikanth and Vikram are biting dust here if the content is not impressive.
At this juncture, a few Tamil stars have decided to come up with direct Telugu movies, though some of them called Tamil films being made by Telugu producers, to test their luck. Vijay’s Varasudu under Vamsi Paidipally’s direction, Danush’s Sir with Venky Atluri and Siva Karthikeyan’s Prince with Anudeep are examples of what is really happening here. But for all these films, though they are backed by big Telugu production houses, what matters is how Telugu audiences are going receive these debuts from Tamil stars.
As “Prince” is hitting cinemas tomorrow, we hear that even Telugu producers and the star Tamil heroes are eagerly waiting to see how it is going to fare at the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana box office. Based on that, they would like to get clarity on whether they should be doing more promotions or finding a solo release date as well. After Prince, the likes of Danush’s Sir want to compete with major Telugu movies in November, while Vijay’s Varasudu is trying for the Sankranthi slot, clashing with #Mega154 and Adipurush.
Wait for a few more hours to find out what “Prince” would do at the box office.
