Usually in the movie business, like director Puri Jagan said already, making a film is a different thing but selling it to buyers is more of gambling only. When a film scores a hit, producers like Allu Arvind, Dil Raju and Suresh Babu who own theatres and distribution networks might get the whole of the profits, but other producers do find it difficult to get the realistic account ledgers and buyers do take all the call. However, when a film fails to score a hit at the box office, buyers often come back to producers, asking them to return their money.
This time, for the flop show of “Liger” not the Distributors/Buyers but Exhibitors (Movie theatre owners) are trying to stage a dharna at Puri Jagan’s house as the director-producer hasn’t returned the promised amount to them yet. But one would get doubt why these buyers and exhibitors are enraged so much when they haven’t done similar feats with Chiru-Koratala for Acharya, or Nagarjuna-Praveen Sattaru for The Ghost. They say that Puri Jagan pushed himself into this position because of some unwanted revelations.
With everyone writing off Puri Jagan for making a bad film like “Liger” and stating that both the director and his producer Charmme have fallen into neck-deep debts, they are said to have made certain statements at a party. Reportedly Charmme was said to have stated that they have made some crores profit from Liger sales in the form of both theatrical and non-theatrical rights, and the flop show wouldn’t affect them financially. This talk led to a demand from ‘Buyers-Exhibitors’ to return at least few crores, which would keep Puri Jagan in profits only but would save the buyers who have invested quite a big chunk on the film.
Well, that’s the talk we are hearing about the whole fiasco in Film Circles as Puri Jagan’s WhatsApp audio message to a buyer is now going viral everywhere.
