Team India mathematically cruised into the semifinals by winning against Bangladesh in a last-ball thriller. At one point, everyone thought that India is losing this game. But thanks to the rain and a brilliant run out by KL Rahul, India got back into the match in style. In this rain-affected match, India won by five runs.
Once again, India failed to score big in the powerplay. On top of that, opener Rohit Sharma got out in the fourth over itself. Later, Virat Kohli (64* off 44 balls) and KL Rahul (50 off 32 balls) settled the innings. In the process, Rahul scored his first fifty in this tournament. Right after scoring a half-century, he got out. Then, Surya Kumar Yadav (30) gave good support to Virat Kohli. Once SKY got out, Hardik and Dinesh Karthik also went back to the pavilion without making any impact. However, Virat Kohli kept hitting from the other end and scored his third fifty in this World Cup. With the help of his knock and Ashwin’s little cameo, India was able to make 184/6 in 20 overs.
Bangladesh needed a big start while chasing this total. Opener Litton Das (60 off 27 balls) gave exactly that. He scored a fifty right in the powerplay and has put Bangladesh in a dominant position. When the score was 66/0, the rain stopped the play. After the break, the revised target was set to 151 in 16 overs. Right after the break, Das got run out. Within no time, even Shanto got out. After that, wickets kept falling in quick succession. Indian bowlers came back stronger and turned the game on their side. Towards the end, Nurul Hasan and Taskin Ahmed brought back Bangladesh into the game.
They needed 20 runs off the last over. Nurul hit a six and a four off Arshdeep’s bowling. The equation came down to 7 runs in one ball. That’s when Arsdheep held his nerve and bowled a superb delivery. Nurul was able to score only one run. Bangladesh ended its innings at 145/6 and lost the match by five runs. Arshdeep (2/38) and Hardik Pandya (2/28) took two wickets each.
India will play its last game against Zimbabwe on November 6. Bangladesh faces Pakistan on the very same day.
