Adipurush New Release Date: A Bad Idea?

Published by

Like we said it already almost a month ago when the teaser of Prabhas’ latest film, Om Raut’s directorial “Adipurush” got released, the film got finally postponed officially. Unlike the original date of Jan 12, 2023, the makers of the film have now picked up June 16, 2023, as the release date owing to the delays caused by the visual effects of the film. That’s fine, but is this a viable date for a Prabhas starrer?

Except for Shahrukh Khan’s Jawan which is hitting cinemas on June 2nd, there are no big releases in India around the release date of Adipurush. But then, the makers are expecting that after RRR, the craze for Indian films has gone bigger, and they wanted to release this Prabhas and Kriti Sanon across the globe in 3D format. That will take a beating now as Hollywood is going to witness the release of “Spiderman: Across The Spiderverse, Part 1” on June 2nd and “Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts” on June 9th, in a big way.

These big Hollywood releases always storm almost all the 3D theatres in the world, and finding theatres for a couple of weeks after their release will be an impossible task. So, how would Prabhas’ Adipurush grab theatres in the USA, UK and Australia, and other fetching areas in Europe is the biggest question now. That too, to release the Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil versions of Adipurush abroad, surely the makers need a huge number of theatres. Looking into this fact, Overseas distributors are right now saying that June 16th, 2023 is a bad idea of sorts.

However, the biggest relief for Adipurush should come from the Indian market only, so the availability of theatres in Hindi, and Telugu circuits is the important thing. While theatres will be available for sure here in India, the Summer holidays of 2023 are going to be over as most educational institutions are likely to re-open on June 12th. In that case, picking June 16th release date is actually making Adipurush miss out on the important summer holidays.

All said and done, if the film’s content is terrific, surely no holidays and a larger number of screens are not required as the likes of Pushpa and Kantara have proved recently. Let’s see what happens.
