Varsham: A disaster among re-releases

Prabhas Varsham

Everything has a limit. If the limit is crossed, the same thing becomes mundane and boring. It is happening with the re-release trend in Tollywood. Initially, these re-releases of old blockbusters got a sensational response from the audience.

Fans enjoyed watching films like Pokiri, Jalsa and Billa in theatres. But the fun is now diluting as there is at least a single re-release every two weeks. Yesterday, Prabhas’s Varsham was re-released to celebrate 20 years of his film career. Directed by Shobhan, Varsham featured Prabhas and Trisha in the lead roles. Devi Sri Prasad composed the music for it.

Everyone expected huge collections for this film as it was a blockbuster and one of the best films in Prabhas’s career. But in reality, Varsham’s re-release became a flop. Not even Prabhas’s fans showed interest in watching the film.

Except for a few areas like RTC X Roads and Kukatpally, theatres in none of the other areas reported housefuls. In some theatres, the shows were cancelled. In some others, there were less than 30 audiences in the hall. Thus, Varsham’s re-release turned out to be a huge loss venture for the buyers.

Prabhas’s fans recently celebrated the re-release of Rebel and Billa in theatres. Within no time, Varsham is re-released. Why would anyone want to come to watch it if the standard ticket rates are maintained? Either the rates should have been decreased or there should have been a significant gap between the re-release of every film. Otherwise, we may witness many more blockbusters becoming disasters when they hit the big screens once again.
