One of the most original and entertaining Bollywood films of recent times is Monica O My Darling. Starring Rajkumar Rao, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte in the lead roles, it was directed by Vasan Bala. The film premiered on Netflix on November 11.
Upon its release, this crime comedy got rave reviews and a unanimous positive response from the audience. However, the streaming numbers of the movie are disappointing.
Recently, Netflix released streaming hours of its top 10 films. Monica O My Darling is in the eighth position with just 4,450,000 streaming hours. This figure is less than Netflix’s previous hit releases like Darlings, RRR and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Content-wise, Monica O My Darling is excellent. It is one of the best Bollywood films this year. But the figures are low because of poor marketing by Netflix.
The streaming platform didn’t promote this movie aggressively. On the flip side, it promoted films like Darlings and Haseen Dilruba on a larger scale. Thus, Monica O My Darling failed to get more viewing hours. Also, Rajkumar Rao is not a star like Alia Bhatt. That is also one of the reasons why the film failed to do well in its opening week.
As the word of mouth is positive, we have to see if the viewing hours of Monica O My Darling improve in the coming days.
