If a Malayalam film turns a superhit at the box office, immediately Telugu producers are getting ready to remake it here. Or some heroes are sending the producers to acquire the rights to those movies. That’s what happened with movies like Bro Daddy, Hrudayam and Thallumaala in recent times after they turned out to be blockbusters at the box office.
But one film that was still not remade, or didn’t go into the remake production pipeline of Tollywood is none other than Tovino Thomas’ “Minnal Murali”, which was publicised as “Merupu Murali” in the Telugu states. While the original version that was released on Netflix has become a favourite movie of many Telugu movie lovers, to date, no hero or production house acquired the rights to this movie.
Speaking to Bollywood media, while promoting his latest film “Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey” in which he acted as a hero, director Basil Joseph who carved Minnal Murali revealed that they didn’t sell the remake rights, that’s why there is no remake happening. “We want Murali to be that superhero from Kerala and we want only Tovino Thomas to be that. That’s the reason we didn’t sell remake rights as we are coming up with a sequel soon” the director said.
Well, the news of the Minnal Murali sequel is a huge update for fans of the film, but then, choosing to not allow any remake like how movies like Spiderman and other Marvel heroes never get remade, is a good thing to hear.
