‘Connect’, starring Nayanthara, Sathyaraj and Anupam Kher, is directed by ‘Maya’ and ‘Game Over’ fame Ashwin Saravanan. The film’s early premieres in Chennai and Hyderabad have resulted in a positive ‘word of mouth’, especially the technical aspects.
Nayanthara, who has backed the experimental film with her husband Vignesh Shivan producing it, is promoting the movie enthusiastically. She has given her first interview after many years to speak about the horror movie at length. She suggests that ‘Connect’ melds jump scares with emotions.
“I love horror movies. Even though I am a little scared while watching them, I am still entertained,” the Lady Superstar says. Talking about the premise of ‘Connect’, Nayan reveals that it’s about how a family deals with an unimaginable situation during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. The narrative doesn’t focus exclusively on the horror effects but also on the emotional churn inside a young girl and her petrified mother.
The film also pays a subtle and poignant homage to the sacrifices made by frontline workers during the pandemic.
Nayan was happy when the director chose Sathyaraj to play her father. “He exudes fatherly vibes,” the ‘GodFather’ actress says. About Anupam Kher, who plays an exorcist in the movie, Nayan adds that it was a cakewalk for him doing the role. “I don’t have scenes with him because my character is cooped up at home and the story takes place over a Zoom video call,” the ‘Simha’ actress reveals.
The multi-lingual actress, who is acting with Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Jawaan’ these days, reveals that nothing has changed in her life after marriage. “When a male person gets married, nobody asks him what changes have happened in his life. But when a woman gets married, even when nothing changes, everyone is concerned,” Nayan observes.
