While ‘Avatar 2’ registered a global collection of $430+ million on its first weekend, the film is struggling to hold the footfalls on the weekdays in the first week itself. While it is going to be a profitable venture for Disney for sure, the numbers from the box office are not so convincing. Though some hailed the film as a visual spectacle for its riveting second half, here are the things that would have resulted in the better for the James Cameron directorial.
Loud Background Score:
The whole world got habituated to watching films with terrific background music mostly a loud background score that sets the hearts racing. Avatar 2 is missing out on such a heavy score, as the Dolby Atmos is not something like watching an Akhanda or Kantara for that matter. With the death of the original ‘Avatar’ composer James Horner in 2015, the film got music from various artists and somehow that touch of legend is missing.
Unexpected Twists:
Except for the awesome visuals, there are literally no big twists in Avatar 2 which happens to be a major disappointment. In the first part, taming the sky beasts or Jake Sully becoming Toruk Machto is a shocking twist to the narrative, but here in Avatar 2, no such thing happens. The moment we see Jake’s younger son mingling with a single-finned large whale, Payakan, which is an outcast from Tuluan whale family, people get it that he will tame it and in the end, it will save both sea-people and forest-people.
A New Villain:
In the first part, Stephan Lang stunned everyone with his terrific performance as Colonel Miles Quaritch, and he is brought back as an ‘avatar’ this time. However, in the first part, he has loads of negative shades and those jaw dropping moments that lifted the screenplay to a new high. But here in Avatar 2, his character behaves the same way throughout, thus making everything come from in an expected way only.
Well, these are some observations made by film enthusiasts across the world but not to say that a legendary filmmaker like James Cameron doesn’t know a thing about them.
