What is the mood of the Telugu audience right now? Going by the collections of the latest movies definitely, we could asses what is the mood like. And it looks like already the Sankranthi festive mood has clouded Andhra and Telangana folks as Telugu theatres are right now running to packed crowds even though those films got average reviews.
Firstly we have Raviteja’s Dhamaka movie which was panned by the critics for its outdated content that has no engaging elements. But still, Raviteja’s comedy, Sreeleela’s dances, and overall fun factor in the film are said to be working out big time.
On Sunday evening, most of the best B&C centres in the two Telugu states registered housefuls from the matinee itself. Even in A centres and multiplexes, the film witnessed almost 50% occupancy in major areas. That is leading to Dhamaka clocking terrific collections even with average talk.
On the other hand, despite getting average to below-average reviews, Avatar 2 is also witnessing terrific crowds as they want to enjoy the visual spectacle. In most of the multiplexes, Avatar 2 saw stunning footfall and that might help the film touch ₹400 crores nett mark in India easily. Even Telugu audiences are rushing to theatres to catch this film in both Telugu and English in the 3D version.
All these happenings are just confirming one thing the mood that usually comes up during the Sankranthi holidays is already here. With Christmas getting a 3-day holiday including Sat, Sun and Monday; And then New Year’s Eve around the corner; and with January 2nd week being the major festival time, Telugus are into festival and holiday mood, so enjoying any film that is coming their way.
