One of the last sets of films to say hello to 2022 and goodbye to the year as well, are none other than last Friday releases, Raviteja’s Dhamaka and Sukumar-produced 18 Pages.
Both these films carried good buzz before their release, but then, the mass film that has all the commercial elements is flexing its muscles while the class love story hasn’t get the applause it needs.
Mass Raja Raviteja’s “Dhamaka” suffered with bad reviews and average talk, but it looks like the festive mood has helped the movie fetch immense collections.
Going by the numbers being shared by various trade pandits, the film amassed anywhere between ₹25-30 crores ‘gross’ in its first weekend. On Day 3 (Sunday) the film topped the collections of its Day 1 as well, thus proving that audiences are running in crowds for this mass film.
At the same time, the biggest surprise came from “18 Pages” which featured superhit pair Nikhil and Anupama in the leads. This is their immediate release after “Karthikeya 2” but then the film fetched around ₹6-9 crores ’gross’ from the Telugu box office, nowhere reflecting the success of their previous movie. Even in the USA, the film made a little about $150K and definitely it will not be able to reach even half of Karthikeya 2 collection, which is nearly $1.6 million in its full run.
