After a gap of seven years, director Gunasekhar is coming back with his new film Shaakuntalam. The film is a mythological tale from Mahabharata. Star heroine Samantha Ruth Prabhu plays the titular role in the movie. The theatrical trailer of Shaakuntalam was released just about a while ago.
Going by the trailer, Shaakuntalam looks like a visual canvas. All the frames look grand and beautiful. Samantha looks no less than an angel in the movie. Gunasekhar filled this world with various fantasy elements. It is like watching a visual novel.
Malayalam actor Dev Mohan played the role of Dushyanta Maharaja in the movie. His chemistry with Samantha looks good on screen. Senior actors like Prakash Raj and Mohan Babu will be seen in key roles. Ananya Nagalla, Gautami and Aditi Balan essayed key roles in it.
At the end of the trailer, we get a glimpse of Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha, who is making her acting debut with this film. On the whole, Shaakuntalam’s trailer looks beautiful but the emotional feel is missing. It doesn’t look better than Gunasekhar’s previous film Rudhramadevi. The VFX work is patchy as well. We have to see if Gunasekhar proves us wrong when the film hits the screens. Shaakuntalam is set for a pan-India release on February 17.
