R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States was crowned Miss Universe 2022 at the grand finale held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. A total of 84 delegates from around the world competed in the international pageant, which Olivia Culpo and Jeannie Mai Jenkins hosted.
R’Bonney was crowned by the outgoing queen, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu. Venezuela’s Amanda Dudamel was named first runner-up, and the second runner-up was Andreína Martínez of the Dominican Republic.
The jury panel for the 71st Miss Universe pageant included Ximena Navarrete, Big Freedia, Mara Martin, Wendy Fitzwilliam, Emily Austin, Olivia Quido, Myrka Dellanos, Sweta Patel, Olivia Jordan, and Kathleen Ventrella.
The big event also featured performances by Big Freedia, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Amanda Shaw, Tank, and the Bangas, and Yolanda Adams.
