Drishyam, the blockbuster Malayalam movie starring Mohanlal as Georgekutty, is set to conquer the world. The film’s widespread popularity has led to multiple remakes, including two in Bollywood, with the most recent one, Drishyam 2, grossing a staggering Rs 250 crore in India alone.
In a recent announcement, Panorama Studios International Ltd declared that they have acquired the rights to remakes of both Drishyam and Drishyam 2 in all foreign languages excluding Filipino, Sinhala, and Indonesian. Moreover, they have also secured the rights to produce a Chinese-language version of Drishyam 2 and are currently in negotiations to bring the movie to Korea, Japan, and Hollywood.
The film, directed by Jeethu Joseph and released in 2013, tells the story of Georgekutty and his loving family whose peaceful lives are thrown into turmoil after an unintended crime. Despite the obstacles that come their way, Georgekutty strives to protect his family and their secret.
In addition to the Malayalam version, Drishyam has also been adapted in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with actors Ajay Devgn, Kamal Haasan, and Venkatesh respectively taking on the lead role.
