Picking up London as a backdrop for films is an exciting thing earlier when the likes of Shah Rukh Khan and others shot there. Tollywood also witnessed that with Sukumar’s 1-Nenokkadine and Varun Tej’s Tholiprema. Now that three more films are coming up with the same backdrop, it is coming out that this backdrop is not exciting the audience anymore.
In fact, the main reason for Telugu producers to choose a UK backdrop is not because it is picturesque but for the fact that 50% of the investment (production cost that took place in the UK) will be returned as part of a special program by the UK government to encourage film shootings there. Today we have an update coming from Varun Tej and Praveen Sattaru’s Gandheevadhari Arjuna that their London shoot is wrapped. Earlier we have Nikhi’s new film with Sudhir Varma already completing its shoot, while Sharwanand is also going there soon for the shoot of his next.
At a time when the likes of Rajamouli and other big directors are exploring some of the unexplored locations in the world for their upcoming projects, choosing London or the UK backdrop again and again is not giving any new excitement to the audience. At least our makers should do magic with the content, and that will give the real enthrallment than the backdrop.
