The business of cinema is quite tricky and some big players play it very rude. Other day, a big movie giant like Yash Raj Films has played the trick of ticket prices quite effectively and that way it has nearly destroyed the Day 1 collections of another big film that is hitting cinemas. Here goes the story.
Already we know that on Friday, the ticket price of Yash Raj Film’s ₹500 crore gross-collector “Pathaan” as ₹112 across all the big multiplex chains. This comes as a rude shock to Karthik Aryan’s “Shehzada” which is hitting cinemas on the same day. And to gain attention and sales, the makers of Shehzada were forced to announce a Buy 1 Get 1 ticket offer on Bookmyshow, which is a sort of surprise for a big film on its release day itself. That makes the ticket price of Shehzada the same as that of Pathaan, but you will get two tickets for ₹250 but not a single ticket at ₹112. That’s how YRF delivered the master stroke.
According to trade experts, Shehzada’s openings were nearly killed to 50% less revenue due to this offer, but with hefty competition from Pathaan, they have no option but to give it. In fact, none expected this surprising bonanza from YRF, however, in business, the only way to go forward is to analyse competition and make moves.
In a recent press conference, Kartik Aryan was asked about Pathaan overshadowing Shehzada, ‘I think we made a good film, and automatically when someone will watch the film he will like our movie. There is nothing like being overshadowed. It is a good thing that Pathaan has done wonderfully well, that is good for industry. It achieved historic figures and that will inspire audiences to go to theatres more.’
In case if Shehzada gets a blockbuster talk, then things will be different from Saturday, otherwise, Pathaan might continue its mighty domination at the box office. Let us see what happens.
