Venu Yeldandi. This name may not sound familiar to Telugu audiences. If we say Venu Tillu, some of them may remember the person. He shot to fame with Munna and acted in various other films as a comedian. He also used to act in the popular television show Jabardast.
Venu took a break from acting and suddenly announced a movie named Balagam as a director. What’s more surprising was the film was produced by ace producer Dil Raju.
Before the release, everyone expected Balagam to be a comedy entertainer as it is directed by a comedian. The trailer conveyed that the film is not going to be a typical comedy entertainer. In the pre-release event, Dil Raju said that the film will have a mix of nativity, emotions and comedy. Proving his words right, Venu came up with a heartwarming family drama.
Balagam was released yesterday. The story is set in rural Telangana and deals with a family which is mourning the death of its head. How a death changes the dynamics in a family and how important is unity among family members are the main topics Balagam deals with.
The film has subtle dark humour but is filled with heart-touching emotional scenes. Especially, Venu got the casting perfectly right. He also brought the nativity on the big screen very well. Balagam may not be a big grosser at the box office but is definitely one of the best films released in the recent past. Venu also proved his mettle as a director and we can expect him to come up with more rooted and native films in the coming days.
