In recent times, Bollywood has seen remake movie likes of Jersey, HIT, Shehzada (Ala Vaikuntapurramlo), Nikamma (MCA Remake), Vikram Vedha, Laal Singh Cheddha (Forest Gump), Driyshyam 2, Good Luck Jerry, Selfie (Driving License remake) and many others. Except Drishyam 2, none of the films worked, but then everyone hoped big on Ajay Devgan’s Bholaa, to prove the remakes will work if remade correctly.
Even though Ajay Devgan tried to induce loads of more action into this remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Khaidi movie, the film hasn’t opened to great numbers at the box office. After making a start at ₹11+ cr nett opening last Thursday, Bholaa’s collections dipped on Day 2 (₹ 7.4 cr nett), but they rose big on Saturday (₹12 cr nett) and Sunday (₹14 cr nett), thus taking the total collection of the movie to ₹44+ crores nett in India alone. But then, that is not enough for the movie to become a super-hit in any manner.
Even if the film does exceptionally well for another week, it might struggle to touch the ₹100 crore mark, and trade is expecting that it will get around ₹70+ crores only from Indian markets. That means another remake has failed at the Bollywood box office because for the kind of blockbuster Khaidi is, this film should have made it phenomenally at the box office.
Even though the results are not satisfactory, Bollywood is still coming up with remakes as Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai, Kisi Ki Jaan (Katamarayudu remake) and Aditya Roy Kapoor’s Gumraah (Ram’s Red remake) are getting ready to hit cinemas soon.
