Tollywood To Maintain ‘Pan India’ Silence

After the super success of films like Pushpa and Kantara, almost every big South film is becoming a ‘pan India’ project only. Though some used that word vividly and some heroes like Nani hasn’t used the word but promoted their films aggressively in Hindi hinterlands. But then, it looks like there will be pindrop silence in that aspect at the moment.

While many thought that mass Telugu dubbed films that do well in the dubbing circuit on YouTube will also do superb in theatres too, have learnt their lesson after the flop show of Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy’s Hindi version. Not even many know that the Hindi versions of these movies were released. Later, the big hope for Tollywood in terms of the Hindi market seemed to be Nani’s Dasara and the hero promoted it aggressively. However, the film didn’t even get 30% occupancy in the first weekend, thus proving, the importance of content that gels with the native emotions.

Then came Samantha’s Shaakuntalam which was promoted as a pan-India movie for its mythological content, and ties to the Hindu epics. Many thought that the film might work in Hindi due to its content, but that too didn’t work out. This led to Tollywood taking some decisions, which are needed at the moment. We hear that upcoming films like Agent, Virupaksha, Vinodhaya Sitam remake, Custody, Bholaa Shankar, Kushi and more, will be released only in Telugu first. Looking at the result, they might go for a Hindi release after a week.

This decision is likely to happen because producers are spending a couple of crores for Bollywood promotions and the release as well, and they are unable to recover it. If they spend the same amount here, they not only get terrific promotions but could also get mind-blowing openings. So for some time, Tollywood is likely to maintain pan-India silence.
